Code Club

Code Club In-Person

Coding and computer science are a new kind of digital literacy, and libraries all over the U.S. are stepping up to help everyone build 21st century skills.  Your kids can learn important tech skills and have fun along the way. Code Club will meet every Wednesday starting Sept. 18th from 6:00-7:00 pm in the Shipman Room. Best for kids in 3rd grade and up.  No coding expertise necessary & Drop-ins Welcome!  No Pre-Registration required.

Get ready to blast off into creativity! Our library is hosting the Cosmic Art Gallery coding competition from June 1 – July 31. Show off your HTML, CSS, and JavaScript skills by building a gallery website that showcases photos and artwork of stars and planets. This free, online challenge ties in perfectly with the “Color Our World” theme. Ready to launch?

Start coding today, sign up for Fiero Code -- join us at the Library for Code Club on Wednesdays at 6pm!

Are you someone who wants to learn how to code? If so, you’ll be pleased to know that our library provides free access to Fiero Code, a learn-to-code software program for kids, teens and adults!  Through fun and engaging activities, Fiero Code helps students learn the coding skills necessary to build websites, video games, apps and more. Coding languages include: Scratch, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Python, SQL.

As coders complete each Fiero Code workout and mission, they unlock gear and other items that they can use to customize their personal avatar. Older teens and adults can use the Pathways feature to learn useful skills, such as website building or game design. Best of all, Fiero Code includes a feature that allows coders to share their completed projects with parents, teachers and friends. They can also register to compete in up to three Fiero Code Challenges each year and submit their projects for a chance to win prizes.

Our Code Club will be using the platform CodeMonkey.  CodeMonkey offers a variety of courses that teach not only block-based coding but also text-based coding, so kids learn to program like a real developer. From CoffeeScript to Python, kids get the coding experience they need to then develop their own games, apps and programs.  The courses have a range of skill levels, so we will be able to accommodate all kids' experience levels.
