Live from California-- Carl Winters "The Kalimba King" [Registration Req] In-Person

The Kalimba, or African thumb piano, is sometimes mistaken for being a museum piece or toy. But this musical instrument is part of the Mbira family of musical instruments, traditional to the people of Zimbabwe. The Kalimba is often an important instrument played at religious ceremonies, weddings, and other social gatherings.

Carl Winters developed an extensive songbook with the Kalimba and loves to share his music -- and the Kalimba-- with audiences and especially children. Carl will bring extra Kalimbas for children to play as well! Come hear, see and learn about this amazing cultural instrument from this guest artist.

Carl Winters currently resides in California, and comes from a musical family. Winters’ inspiration to begin playing/studying the Kalimba (African thumb piano) came in the 1970s from Maurice White, founder of Earth, Wind, & Fire.
