Mountain Dulcimer Concert & Workshop with Wanda Degen [Registration Req.]

Mountain Dulcimer Concert & Workshop with Wanda Degen [Registration Req.] In-Person

"Wanda Degen is a legend around these parts." - MSU's Progressive Torch & Twang radio show, WDBM

It's fun to learn to play melodies on a dulcimer with Wanda Degen! Wanda Degen is a professional folk musician with over 35 years experience, educating and entertaining audiences all over Michigan and as far away as Ireland, Norway, & Canada!

A dedicated teacher, Wanda has taught workshops at Swallow Hill School of Folk Music (Denver), Old Town School of Folk Music (Chicago), Dulcimer Days II (Duluth) and Mountain Laurel Autoharp Gathering (Newport, PA). She has taught private lessons on autoharp, mountain dulcimer, & hammered dulcimer at Elderly Instruments, the internationally renowned music store in Lansing, since 1978.

In this introductory workshop, you'll learn about the Mountain Dulcimer. Associated with the Southern Appalachian Mountains, dulcimer is one of the easiest of stringed instruments-- 3 or 4 strings and is of the fretted zither family. Wanda provides up to a dozen dulcimers for attendees use - or you may bring your own. Some attendees may need to partner-up and share. Learn several songs during the lesson for a fun family activity. Begins with a brief demonstration and performance.  Best for ages 8+.
